Swimsuits with pockets

I discovered something yesterday that I thought I had better pass on. Now that the weather is starting to get hotter people are spending more and more time at the pool. Therefore I felt that a consumer warning was in order. Yesterday I discovered that swimsuits with pockets in them can be very expensive and not good for your health. I am issuing this warning because the people that make the swimsuits deliberately hide this cost and danger.
What I mean by that is that when you go to the department store to buy the suit the price on the tag is the same as any other suit. Even when you go to buy the suit they ring it up at this seemingly innocent low price. But don't be fooled swimsuits with pockets in them will end up costing you a lot more in the end.
Here is what that smiling sales person will never tell you. Swimsuits with pockets in them can hold things like your cell phone, your wallet with all your cards and important information. They are also capable of holding electronic keys and all kinds of dangerous stuff. But do they tell you that as they are checking you out at the store and offering you yet another credit card you don't need. NOOO! This is where swimsuits with pockets become very expensive.
Without realizing it you end up jumping into the pool with all this stuff is in your pockets. I don't know if you have every heard your cell phone sizzle but it is not a comforting sound. Not to mention the discomfort of finding your wallet and everything else at the bottom of the pool. And here is why swimsuits with pockets in them are so expensive. Have you ever tried to buy a new cell phone without a service contract, especially after you have innocently forgotten to buy insurance on your phone, because you wanted to spend the money on that new swimsuit instead? Nobody in the swimsuit section warned you about this did they? Personally I think the wireless phone companies and the swimsuit makers are in cohoots with one another.
All said and done I like my new phone, but the swimsuit is history.
Now if we could just the sun block guys to put a warning label on their stuff. Something to the effect that you actually have to put the stuff on your body to prevent sunburn. Thank goodness Mondays only come once a week.

I had an interesting conversation last night. A friend called and asked me a simple question "So just how into God are you?" There was concern in her voice. This is a friend that I have had many of Theological conversations. We have sparred on many occasions and choose to agree to disagree. I answered her with "Well I have decided to quit my job, sell my house, and travel the world preaching the Word" Then there was silence. "Your kidding right?" I started to laugh and she breathed a deep sigh. The conversation didn't stop there. It went from 'What do you think happens to us when we die?...to... Are the Buddists going to hell?...and what about the Trinity? If Jesus is God and Jesus died on the Cross then did God die? and if God died then who was looking after us when he died? She was rambling. I was lost in translation and didn't know where to begin. I answered with the oh so brilliant " I don't have all the answers..." She was left unsatisfied. I felt her loss so added, " Only God knows the answers...you have to trust in God" NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Still.

We moved on and she then preached to me about the evils of being dogmatic. How to stay politically correct because in this world we wouldn't want to offend anyone by saying God it would be better to say the "Great Spirit" or "The Creator" or the best is to just stay away from that subject altogether.

Isn't it funny how people become afraid when something changes. I have always had a non secular interest in theology. My family and friends have known this about me for years. They have always supported and encouraged this side. Yet, when we start talking about faith something happens. People start talking in whispers and look in sideways glances. They are in fear.

I asked my friend why all the questions. She said she was concered. I asked her what she was afraid of. She didn't know. I told her I would never judge her. She was silent. I told her I loved her. She started to cry.

It seems that people in general want to do what they want to do when they want to do it and not have to worry about it. I know that’s what I wanted to do before I was a believer. If you are a Christian, then you are a constant reminder to unbelievers that they can’t live that way without consequence. People don’t like to be reminded of this (John 3:20) so being a Christian will put strains on friendships with unbelievers. Be prepared to hear statements like, “Don’t be silly…” and, “There are more important things to worry about...” These are gentle statements to indicate discomfort with your position on God, and thus their position on God. As your walk with the Lord becomes more intimate and committed then the statements you hear will become less gentle.

If some of your friends are unbelievers you must be sensitive to this and be true to your faith, but be gentle with them. You have the full power of ultimate truth behind you and that is an overpowering weapon that should be used with love. Used carelessly, it can cause people to become defensive and then in desperation consider irrational thought to be rational. For example this is what happens in pluralism, which says that both Christianity and Islam can be true. Well, in reality only one can be true or both can be false, but certainly both cannot be true. The acceptance of pluralism as making sense is an example of the desperation described above.

I once worked as a construction worker in a small housing development. One day the owner of the construction company found out the foundation of a two-story house that was almost finished was laid 7 feet too close to the sidewalk. They tried to get a variance from the county but couldn’t get one. They ended up tearing down the whole house because the foundation was wrong. This is what happens to unbeliever friends when you are a Christian. You are indicating to them that the foundation of their life is wrong which, if you’re right, requires them to tear down their entire life and world-view and start over (“born again”). We have huge time and emotional investments in our world-views, thus it takes nothing less than an act of God to turn our hearts to the truth. Pray for your friend, I will too.
